CAReS Services
The following services are available depending on availability and require you to have a valid Neighborhood Card:
Housing Referral
This service can provide referrals to the local shelters as well as information on housing units that are available in the area.
Utility Assistance
This service can pay $25 to $50 on a utility bill once every 12 months. You must come in at least five days before the bill is due and have the following information with you:
- Current disconnect or delinquent notice for the utility you need assistance with
- The previous 2 months bills for the same utility
- If you rent your home, we must have the current month’s rent receipt to show that your rent has been paid.
- If you pay a mortgage on your home, we must have documentation to show how much you are required to pay and a receipt to show that it has been paid.
- The most recent bill for ALL utilities that you pay (electric, water & gas) AND the receipts to show that they have been paid.
- If you pay child support, we need documentation of how much you are ordered to pay per month.
Rent Assistance
This service can pay $25 to $50 towards your rent once every 12 months, but you must provide an eviction notice from the landlord that shows the amount due along with the following information:
- The most recent bill for ALL utilities that you pay (electric, water & gas) AND the receipts to show that they have been paid.
Food Pantry/Emergency Food
Assignment to a food pantry will allow you to receive commodity foods once a month from a designated pantry. You must be receiving SNAP benefits (food stamps) and be able to provide a copy of the award letter stating the amount you receive. You can get a copy of this letter at the Food Stamp office.
Emergency food can be provided once every 3 months to those with or without SNAP benefits (food stamps).
Prescription Assistance
Once every 3 months you may be eligible for up to $20 to pay on your prescriptions. A voucher will be given to you to take to the pharmacy as payment.
Birth Certificates & ID Cards
A copy of a birth certificate and a referral for an identification card can be provided one time for each Neighborhood Card holder. You must be a Boyd County resident for the past 90 days before you can receive assistance with a birth certificate.
Baby Care Items
Baby care items such as lotion, shampoo and diapers can be provided once every 3 months.
